Workpackage No 7

Work package number and title:

7. Thermodiffusive separation under the effect of a magnetic Soret effect in temperature-sensitive ferrocolloids

Type of activity:
Postdoctoral training (V3)
Relative start month: 15
Timetable: 18 months

Objectives:

  1. Stability of ferrocolloids under non-isothermal conditions is strongly affected by a thermodiffusive transfer of nanoparticles. Preliminary experiments indicate high mobility of particles in non-isothermic colloids as well as an anisotropy of the Soret effect in the presence of a magnetic field. The aim of the work is to perform detailed separation experiments in thermodiffusion columns and to investigate the magnetic Soret effect in the presence of a uniform magnet field. The problem and expected results are important for development of new smart materials for application in various sensors and in new heat transfer devices (Growth Program, generic activity 5.2).
